Everything you need to know about My Solar Match and going solar

About Our Service

Yes, 100% free for homeowners. We're compensated by our network of solar installation partners when we send them qualified leads. You will never pay My Solar Match anything — all you receive are free, no-obligation quotes from vetted installers.

No. My Solar Match is not a solar installer. We are a third-party marketing and matchmaking service that connects homeowners with licensed, vetted, independent solar installation companies. All installation work, equipment, warranties, financing, and service guarantees are provided by the installer you ultimately choose to work with.

Before any installer joins our network, they must meet baseline standards for contractor licensing, general liability and workers' compensation insurance, years of operating history, customer review ratings, and industry certifications (such as NABCEP where applicable). We regularly review performance and remove partners who don't meet our ongoing standards.

Our matching process takes about 60 seconds. You'll typically receive quotes from vetted installers within 24 to 48 hours. From there, consultations, site assessments, and installations happen on your timeline — typically 2 to 4 months from contract signing to flipping the switch.

You are under no obligation to accept any quote. Our service is designed to give you options and information so you can make the best choice for your home. If none of the quotes are right for you, you simply don't proceed — no fees, no pressure.

About Solar

Savings vary based on your location, energy usage, system size, available incentives, and local utility rates. Most homeowners save between $20,000 and $75,000 over the 25+ year lifetime of their solar system. The only way to know exactly how much you'll save is to get a custom quote from a local installer.

Homeowners may be eligible for the federal Residential Clean Energy Credit (currently 30%), state tax credits, utility rebates, property tax exemptions, and net metering programs. Incentives vary by state and utility. The installers we match you with are experts in your local market and will walk you through every incentive you qualify for.

Most roofs are viable for solar, but it depends on roof age, material, condition, orientation (south-facing is ideal in the U.S.), pitch, and shade. An installer will do a detailed site assessment to confirm whether your roof is suitable and may recommend repairs before installation if needed. Ground-mount systems are also an option for properties with suitable land.

Not always, but if your roof is near the end of its life (typically 20+ years old for asphalt shingle), most installers recommend replacing it first. Removing and reinstalling solar panels later is expensive. Some installers offer roofing services or financing that bundles both projects.

When you buy (cash or loan), you own the system and claim all tax credits and incentives. Buying typically produces the highest lifetime savings. When you lease or use a PPA (Power Purchase Agreement), a third party owns the system and you pay for the electricity it produces. Leasing has no upfront cost but lower lifetime savings and potential complications when selling your home. Your installer can walk you through the trade-offs for your situation.
